Steps,Requirements&Payrate of Traveling RN nurse?
Im 19 female in Chicago that just graduated homeschooling, and I want to become a travel nurse, where are some of the places you went, and I know im not good with direction, so that sucks.lol Did you have a car with you when you traveled? Or did u just ake a plane? I never been on a plane before, ok Im not the smartest person in the world, so I know that there are some requirements before I can even get to be an RN, my highschool gpa is 3.46 is that good or no? Can you plzzzzzzzzzzz help me.lol. Because I really want to do the nursing thing and I’d love to travel but I can’t even travel my own city.lol Tell me if this plan will work I wnt to go to a community college down teh street from me called Prarie State College in Chicago Heights my prerequisites or whatever wil probably take me a year and a half before I can even get into the 2year RN Program that they have for the associates then afterwards I want to go to a 4year college at Olivet Nazerine University to get my BSN so that’ll be like 7years then trying to find a job as an RN and work a year then trying to travel so all together is 8years, alsoooooo how the heck did you pay for everything? because I come from a very lowincome family just my mom and brother both disabled and on ssi, so i think financial aid will pay for my years at the community college for free, but im not sure baout the university i think it’s a private college it’s like a christian college.so plzzzzzzzz with whatever answer you can give me would be soooooooooooo helping, how much were you making as a travel nurse or before being a travel nurse and was that NCFLEX or whatever test reallyhard to take? Was there really hard classes you had to take befor you ca even become an RN?
Do travel nurses have to pay for there on gas if were driving? Do we have to buy our own food? Can you apply at the same place twice for example, north dakota, just got done with an assignment there and and i got another assignment in new york, after im done with new york i want to go back to north dakota, can i apply again there?
First, you need to get your RN degree. You can do this either at a community college (this is an associates RN but still an RN) ; this will take you 2 years of core nursing and 1+ year of pre-reqs such as anatomy, english, algebra, etc. Or you can go to a university that offers a 4 year bachelors RN (more expensive). Either way, the school MUST offer a nursing program (there is NO other way). **I would start at the community college which may be free for you and take it from there. No need to get all excited–take it ONE step at a time & you will be fine. You can work for a few years as an RN and save up $ to get the BSRN. That way you will have some experience under your belt & some $. Don’t rush!
Before you travel, however, you will need to plan on several years of working in a hospital for experience. Traveling RNs must be experienced as there is no on the job training for travelers–they need to be able to drop into a job and start working. Once you are experienced, then you can look for Travel Agencies (no need to list them now as you are years away from this); the pay is good, but will be different by the time you are ready, so don’t worry there either.
The NCLEX is hard (it has to be!) but if you do well in school, you should be prepared.
Good luck.
