Hottest Video Games and System is the Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

Nintendo, a leader in video game consoles has struck another home run with their latest offering. The Nintendo Wii is a revolutionary video game system that puts the player right in the middle of the action. Most video game systems have controllers with several buttons which control different movements of the characters within the game. The Nintendo Wii is different. It’s controller senses movements of the player and responds accordingly. If a player is playing tennis on the Wii, they will hold the controller in their hand and swing, just as if they controller was a tennis racquet. Same goes with bowling; The player holds the controller as if it’s the bowling ball.

The Nintendo Wii was introduced in November 2006 and was an immediate success. Sales of the Nintendo Wii were so brisk that stores could not keep enough in stock to satisfy the demand. Since it’s introduction, Nintendo has sold over 34 million Nintendo Wii game consoles.

Because the Nintendo Wii is a very active video game, system it appeals to a much different demographic than traditional game systems. Many buyers of the Nintendo Wii are first-time game console buyers, lured by the unique design.

One very popular addition to the Nintendo Wii is the Wii Fit Board. This unique accessory looks similar to a bathroom scale. The player stands on the board and then is able to control a character on the screen. After some setup, the Nintendo Wii Fit Board will take the user through a number of exercises all suited to help the user get in shape. A player makes a profile of their height, weight and other physical attributes then the Wii Fit Board goes to work at creating an exercise program tailored for each person. Over time the exercises become more challenging as the physical condition of the user improves. The Nintendo Wii has even been integrated into exercise programs at nursing homes and rehabilitation centers to help in maintenance and recovery.

Even though the Wii is unique and rather unconventional, it still appeals to hardcore gamers as well, with a full range of games for just about every taste. Some of the most popular games include: Wii Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Guitar Hero, Wii Star Wars, Wii Rock Band and Wii Ski.

For those looking for a unique gaming experience, the Nintendo Wii is certainly a great choice compared to other video game consoles. Not only can you play games on it, but it can also connect to the internet and be used to surf the internet. Rather than sitting at a computer, which is what you likely do all day at work, the Wii allows you to surf the internet without leaving the couch. For occasional web surfers, now there’s no need to have a separate computer that rarely gets used. You can save money by purchasing a new, used, or refurbished Nintendo Wii System online.

The Nintendo Wii is the most innovative video game console to be released in many years. From the youngest child to the seniors, it’s a great gaming system for just about anyone.

No Adult Left Behind: 5 Big Benefits Of Lifelong Learning

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

Malcolm Knowles (1913-1997), pioneer in adult education, titled one of his books, “The Adult Learner: A Neglected Species.” And no wonder. Many people closed their books halfway through life; research on how grown-ups learn was in its early stages; teachers equipped to handle mature students were hard to find.

Today lifelong learning opportunities are plentiful and instructors well-versed in space age information delivery. Still, millions fail to take advantage. They need constant reminders of the pot of gold at the end of the adult education rainbow.

Five bright benefits come to mind. First is the prospect of a fatter paycheck. Job promotions go to smart people who keep up with the latest information and technology. It’s just good sense to refresh and retrain for the workplace. New careers are created all the time so those who see what’s coming and want to jump ship have got to be prepared with new certifications, diplomas and degrees.

Second is the enhanced self-esteem when you reach for new horizons, accept tough challenges and arrive at a whole new level. New learning is not a picnic but the joys of accomplishment are real. Your children are proud. Your neighbors are surprised and maybe just jealous enough to go out and do likewise.

Third is the freedom given to adult learners. The teacher is more facilitator than dictator. Adult students, unlike young kids, may be just as experienced as the person at the front of the room. Adult classmates share ideas and teach each other. Assignments may culminate in a group project or program rather than a graded exam. Memorizing facts is at a minimum; answers are not absolute.

True, there are some studies where exactness counts and tests are mandatory. But a quick Internet search turned up references to the use of adult education theories in highly regimented disciplines, such as nursing and medicine. Getting ready to pass state boards did not prevent creative teaching where students’ views are respected and acted on. It is possible to combine traditional methods with adult learning styles.

Fourth is the shift of schooling to a 24/7 model and long-distance or online methods. Trade the classroom for your computer. Stay home and study in your bathrobe. Earn a degree without ever stepping on campus. Leave an email message for the professor at 3 a.m. With time and space constraints removed anyone who truly wants to go on learning can do so. Further, some class enrollments are open with start dates at your convenience.

Number five is making scholarship a habit. Education becomes second nature; it’s who you are as much as what you do. People live longer now and their health stays robust. Folks dread the thought of 15 or 20 years after retirement with idle hands and minds. Luckily, such waste is out of fashion. Well known programs, such as Elderhostel keep people thinking, socializing and traveling. Grandmothers get their master’s degree.

Invest in yourself. Empower your life. Jump start your future with strong commitment to lifelong achievement. Knowing these five benefits can wipe out all excuses.

Student Loan Consolidation - How does it Work?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

Student Loan Consolidation - How does it Work? Student loans are
a great source of financial aid for students who need help
paying for their education. Unfortunately, students often leave
college with burdensome debt. In addition, they often have
multiple loans from different lenders, meaning they are writing
more than one loan repayment check each month. The solution to
this problem is loan consolidation.

What is loan consolidation? Loan consolidation means bundling
all your student loans into a single loan with one lender and
one repayment plan. You can think of loan consolidation as akin
to refinancing a home mortgage. When you consolidate your
student loans, the balances of your existing student loans are
paid off, with the total balance rolling over into one
consolidated loan. The end result is that you have only one
student loan to pay on.

Both students and their parents can consolidate loans.

Should I consolidate my loans? Loan consolidation offers many
benefits:

-Locks in a fixed, usually lower, interest rate for the term of
your loan, potentially saving you thousands of dollars
(depending on the interest rates of your original loans) -Lowers
your monthly payment -Combines your student loan payments into
one monthly bill

In addition, consolidated loans have flexible repayment options
and no fees, charges, or prepayment penalties. There are also no
credit checks or co-signers required.

You should consider consolidating your loans if the
consolidation loan would have a lower interest rate than your
current loans, particularly if you are having trouble making you
monthly payments. However, if you are close to paying off your
existing loans, consolidation may not be worth it.

How will the interest rate for the consolidated loan be? The
interest rate for your consolidated loan is calculated by
averaging the interest rate of all the loans being consolidated
and then rounding up to the next one-eighth of one percent. The
maximum interest rate is 8.25 percent.

To figure your interest rate, visit loanconsolidation.ed.gov for
an online calculator that will do the math for you.

How much can I save? How much you save by consolidating loans
depends on what interest rate you get and whether you choose to
extend your repayment plan. According to Sallie Mae, the leading
provider of student loans in the United States, consolidating
student loans can reduce monthly payments by up to 54 percent.
However, the only way to reduce your payment this much is to
extend your repayment plan. You typically have 10 years to repay
student loans, but, depending on the amount you’re
consolidating, you can extend your repayment plan all the way up
to 30 years. Remember that if you choose to extend your
repayment term, it will take longer to pay off your overall debt
and you’ll pay more in interest. There are no preypayment
penalties, so you can always choose to pay off the loan early.

Am I eligible to consolidate my loans? In order to consolidate
your loans, you must meet the following criteria:

- You are in your six-month grace period following graduation or
you have started repaying your loans -You have eligible loans
totaling over $7,500 -You have more than one lender -You have
not already consolidated your student loans, or since
consolidation you have gone back to school and acquired new
student loans

The following types of loans can be consolidated:

-Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans -Federal Subsidized
and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans -Direct PLUS Loans and
Federal PLUS Loans -Direct Consolidation Loans and Federal
Consolidation Loans -Guaranteed Student Loans -Federal Insured
Student Loans -Federal Supplemental Loans for Students
-Auxiliary Loans to Assist Students -Federal Perkins Loans
-National Direct Student Loans -National Defense Student Loans
-Health Education Assistance Loans -Health Professions Student
Loans -Loans for Disadvantaged Students -Nursing Student Loans

Where can I get a consolidation loan? You can consolidate your
loans through any bank or credit union that participates in the
Federal Family Education Loan Program, or directly from the U.S.
Department of Education. The loan terms and conditions are
generally the same, regardless of where you consolidate. You may
want to check first with the lenders that hold your current
loans.

If all your loans are with one lender, you must consolidate with
that lender.

If you decide to consolidate your student loans, remember that
you can only do so once unless you go back to school and take
out more loans. Therefore, you will want to make sure you get
the best deal the first time. The interest rate will be the same
from all lenders, but some lenders may offer future rate
discounts for prompt payment and a discount for having monthly
payments directly debited from your account.

Can my spouse and I consolidate our loans together? You can
consolidate your loans together, but it is not a good idea for a
couple reasons:

-Both of you will always be responsible to repay the loan, even
if you later separate or divorce -If you need to defer payment
on the loan, both of you will have to meet the deferment criteria

When should I consolidate my loans? You can consolidate your
loans any time during your six-month grace period or after you
have started repaying your loans. If you consolidate during your
grace period, you may be able to get a lower interest rate.
However, since you will lose the rest of the grace period, it is
a good idea to wait until the fifth month of the grace period
before consolidating. The consolidation process usually takes
30-45 days.

How To Start A Career In Social Work

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

Over 600,000 social workers strive every day to make a positive impact on the lives of others. If you’re passionate about helping individuals, families, organizations, and communities, a career in social work might be right for you. Social workers find themselves helping people from all walks of life in a variety of atmospheres from schools to hospitals to prisons to nursing homes and handle casework, policy analysis, research, counseling, and teaching. They deal with issues such as poverty, abuse, addiction, unemployment, death, divorce, and physical illness. If a career switch to social work appeals to you, following is a brief background of social work basics and how to make a smooth transition.

Career Outlook: According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the social work profession is expected to grow by 30% by 2010 and is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through 2014.

Median Annual Earnings for Social Workers (U.S., 2004)

• Child, Family, And School Social Workers: $34,820

• Medical And Public Health Social Workers: $40,080

• Mental Health And Substance Abuse Social Workers: $33,920

• All Other Social Workers: $39,440

Education Requirements: All social workers must have a bachelors (BSW), masters (MSW), or doctoral degree (DSW or Ph.D.) and complete a predetermined number of hours in supervised fieldwork. Social workers also have to graduate from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The CSWE reports that in 2004 there were 442 BSW programs and 168 MSW programs. While some people work with only a BSW, career options are more limited, so the MSW or DSW is more common.

• BSW: Accredited BSW programs typically take four years to complete and require 400 hours of supervised field experience. With a BSW, a graduate can work in an entry-level position, such as a caseworker.

• MSW: An MSW requires two years of study and has a prerequisite of an undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, or a similar field. An MSW allows a social worker to work in a clinical setting to diagnose and treat psychological problems.

• DSW: A doctoral degree takes anywhere from 4-7 years. A DSW has extensive training in therapy and research and is qualified to teach in a university setting.

If you lack the educational or professional background, an associate’s degree may be a good place to start to see if you’re willing to make the necessary educational commitment.

For information regarding accredited social work programs, visit the Council on Social Work Education’s website: www.cswe.org

Licensing and Exams: Social workers must be licensed. For licensing purposes, each state has its own requirements, but an MSW is usually a minimum. In addition, licensing requires 2 years or 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience.

After completing school and hour requirements, social work candidates must pass an exam. The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) develops and maintains four categories of social work licensure examinations: Bachelors, Masters, Advanced Generalist, and Clinical. Candidates should check with individual boards to find out which examinations are appropriate for the jurisdiction where they want to be licensed.

According to the ASWB’s website:

“Each examination contains 170 four-option multiple choice questions designed to measure minimum competencies at four categories of practice. Only 150 of the 170 items are scored; the remaining 20 questions are “pretest” items included to measure their effectiveness as items on future examinations. These pretest items are scattered randomly throughout the examination. Candidates have four hours to complete the test, which is administered electronically.”

For information on state licensing requirements, see the Association of Social Work Boards website: http://www.aswb.org/education/boards/

For information on exams, visit http://www.aswb.org/exam_info.shtml

Continuing Education: As part of renewing licenses every two years, almost all states require continuing education (CE) courses. Each state’s CE requirements vary in number of hours and approved courses, so be sure to check with the board over your jurisdiction to make sure you are in compliance with CE requirements. Many courses are available online, at sites such as www.speedyceus.com, which save time and money.

Types of Licenses: There are several different kinds of licenses available:

L.C.S.W. (or A.C.S.W., L.C.S., L.I.C.S.W., C.S.W.)

The licensed clinical social worker has a graduate academic degree, has completed supervised clinical work experience and has passed a national- or state-certified licensing exam. This advanced practitioner holds a license that allows him or her to receive health-care insurance reimbursements. (National Association of Social Workers)

SSW: School social work is a specialized area of practice within the broad field of the social work profession. School social workers bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system and the student services team. School social workers are instrumental in furthering the purpose of the schools: to provide a setting for teaching, learning, and for the attainment of competence and confidence. School social workers are hired by school districts to enhance the district’s ability to meet its academic mission, especially where home, school and community collaboration is the key to achieving that mission. (School Social Work Association of America)

Other specialties and certifications, offered by the National Association of Social Workers, include:

• Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW)

• Qualified Clinical Social Worker (QCSW)

• Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW)

• Certified Clinical Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Social Worker (C-CATODSW)

• Certified Advanced Children, Youth, and Family Social Worker (C-ACYFSW)

• Certified Children, Youth, and Family Social Worker (C-CYFSW)

• Certified Advanced Social Work Case Manager (C-ASWCM)

• Certified Social Work Case Manager (C-SWCM)

• Certified Social Worker in Health Care (C-SWHC)

• Certified School Social Work Specialist (C-SSWS)

Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting  health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities and individuals. However, as individuals we must take an active role in maintaining our health by leading healthy lifestyles and making sure that we are using proper nutrition daily.

Nutrition is the science that studies how people eat and how eating affects their health and performance. This includes foods or food components that cause diseases or deteriorate health such as eating too many calories. This is a major contributing factor to obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Personal health depends partially on the social structure of one’s life.

Healthy eating is a choice but not much of a choice for those who simply lack the knowledge, awareness and clear understanding about healthy cooking. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources as well as physical capacities. Health represents the amount of damage a character can take before death.

Healthy people should have the right to boost their brains with pills, supplements, herbs and vitamins like those prescribed for hyperactive kids or memory-impaired older folks.

Health care is the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of
mental and physical well being through the services offered by the medical, nursing, and allied health professions.

Health research builds primarily on the basic sciences of biology, chemistry, and physics as well as a variety of multidisciplinary fields, i.e. medical sociology.  Health care is further the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of health through the services offered by the medical, dental, nursing, and allied health professions.

Health care embraces all the goods and services designed to promote health, including preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations.

Health care in Venezuela is probably the most extensive and given the country’s fortunes in oil wealth, expenditure has recently increased greatly, starting with mass vaccinations under the Plan Bolivar 2000. While health care in Africa is usually non existent or highly limited and under resourced.

Here in the United States health inspectors are conducting fewer inspections of nursing homes, restaurants and adult day care sites because of budget constraints and the inability to train and keep inspectors and officials. For this reason it is imperative that you take control of your health care issues and become active in resolving them.

Health system problems aggravated a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe 10 December 2008 — A
widespread cholera outbreak and inadequate access to safe drinking water and hygiene are
threatening the well being of thousands of Zimbabweans.

Because of the on-going importance of health — customers are never more than a single click away from ordering products online and referring their friends and associates who are ready to join a membership program.

Customers spread around the world can be attracted by a health business and take notice. You will see that other people will also be interested in marketing a vitamin or natural health business by noticing that others will easily sign up underneath you.

Online store owners, entrepreneurs and small businesses who e-sell their own products find that they have money rolling into their accounts in no time soon after taking action because shoppers readily kick into high-gear.

There are many resources to help you and your family stay healthy. Products classified as dietary supplements are not required to meet any Food and Drug Administration standards which makes it easy to promote a natural health business.

Making extra income can’t get much easier in the booming health industry especially when you don’t have to look after any products or logistics. Health and wellness spending is continuing as companies seek new marketing channels for their advertisements and employers look to control healthcare spending.

E Learning, the Easy Way to a Degree?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

With lifestyles becoming busier every day and time always increasing in value, online learning has gained significant popularity in the last decade. More and more colleges and higher learning centers are offering traditional courses through online learning environments.  Students are moving from requesting classroom alternatives to demanding them.  In response, the majority of colleges are scurrying to add more and more of these courses to their catalogs.  Another group of schools is fighting the shift towards online learning.  One of the main reasons for the opposition is the debate over whether e Learning is equivalent to classroom learning.

The stereotype is that classroom learning, primarily because it is the predominant and traditional form of learning is superior.   Before we attempt to address this stereotype, one must step back and think about why schooling is important.  Is a college education really about learning Calculus, Sociology, Art and Chemistry?  Some would say yes.  But most would agree that the learning process outweighs the importance of the subject knowledge.  College graduates commonly enter a field not directly related to their schooling.  Degrees are a symbol of the effort exerted and not immediately a profession for the graduate.  There are the exceptions of course; Engineering, Accounting and Nursing Degrees are all examples of education that can earn you a profession.  Other areas of study such as English, History, and Political Science are examples that will not get you a career.  A degree is significant because it shows a commitment to studying, learning and completing a program.  The discipline showed in the journey is what is important because it shows work ethic.

There is a difference between being able to learn online instead of in a classroom.  College students admit to passing courses without completing the “required” readings.  The percent of the textbook actually read is less than fifty percent in most cases.  Of that fifty percent, most reading occurs the weekend before an exam.  Classroom students on the other hand are able to get along this way because professors spend class periods summarizing the “required” readings.  A student who shows up and takes good notes can refer back to what the teacher said prior to the exam.  Online courses on the other hand require actual reading.  An online environment does not give the student a lecture summarizing the readings.  In terms of test taking an online student can only rely on his or her own notes.  The lack of a lecture requires the student to learn independently.  A trait highly valued in the real world.

Another main difference is the degree of discipline required to complete an online course compared to a classroom course.  Often times in a classroom environment attendance is measured either through roll call or by the submission of assignments.  Professors also have in class lectures to students about the importance of coming to class.  An online student does not have this reminder.  The online student must themselves stay on track, study and complete assignments.  This reinforces independence.  Being able to manage yourself is key to successfully completing online courses.

There is no doubt that classroom learning also has significant benefits.  The interaction and discussion piece of a classroom environment is crucial to the learning process, however the degree to which classroom learning is seen as superior is overstated.  E learning is challenging and requires much more independence and discipline.  As more and more students have the online learning experience, it will quickly become evident that these students are learning skills and traits that are just as critical as what is learned in a classroom environment.  Online learning is not as commonly thought, an easy way to obtain a degree.

Levels of Care in Addiction Treatment

Posted by: admin  :  Category: online nursing program

There are many places you might receive assistance for overcoming addiction. These places are generally referred to as “levels of care.” By understanding the levels available you can choose the level most suitable for you. We start with the least complicated and expensive level and work up. We leave out detoxification (withdrawal), which occurs across several levels depending on how severe it is. A comprehensive list of US addiction treatment facilities, across all levels of care, is provided by the federal government:

http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov/

Natural recovery. There is no professional or organized care involved at this level. Natural recovery is the process of using your natural environment to help you change. Most people change addiction using natural recovery. For instance, very few people seek any organized outside assistance to quit smoking. What is less well known is that even for other substances, natural recovery is the most common method of recovery.

Support group attendance. This is organized but not professional assistance. The most widely available support groups in the US are 12-step groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, and approximately 200 other “anonymous” groups. Other, very different types of support groups, are also available online and in some locations, including SMART Recovery, Moderation Management, Women for Sobriety, LifeRing Secular Recovery and Secular Organizations for Sobriety. Support groups are sometimes called mutual aid or self-help groups. Groups are led by non-professional volunteers. Donations are requested, and literature describing the group’s approach to recovery is for sale.

Outpatient care. Professional assistance is provided, as much as all day long, while you live at home. If you are participating in services several days per week for several hours per day the level of care may be termed intensive outpatient. If the frequency tapers off significantly it may be termed aftercare. The terms are relative. If your treatment intensity was 30 hours per week, aftercare may be one hour per week. If your treatment was one hour per week, aftercare may be one hour per month. While an outpatient you might also live in a sober living home or halfway house, which becomes your home while you are there (perhaps for months to years).

Residential treatment. You live in the facility while in treatment. The typical program is 28 or 30 days, but longer lengths of stay (e.g., 90 days, 6 months or even 2 years) are also available. In many residential facilities the resident’s time is completely scheduled (perhaps to include breaks). For instance, you might awaken at 7am, exercise from 7:30 to 8:30, have breakfast at 9, engage in treatment activities from 9:30am to 8:30pm (with breaks for lunch and dinner), have time to journal or read from 8:30 to 9:30, and have lights out at 10. The treatment activities can vary considerably from facility to facility, but typically include a mixture of group sessions, educational sessions, holistic healing (yoga, meditation, guided imagery, etc.), individual sessions, and recreational activities.

Inpatient. This level of care is often confused with residential. Inpatient care is residential treatment in a hospital. There are few hospital programs anymore because treatment in that setting is very expensive. For instance, a hospital must provide nursing staff 24 hours per day. Most participants do not need that level of care, except perhaps when undergoing detoxification.
